Options for Web Hosting

author Posted by: James Norris | filed Filed under: Hosting Tips & Advice

As  you probably already know, there are many options to take into consideration when you are getting ready to purchase a domain from a web host.  Every host has something a little different to offer than any of the others out there, so do your research and choose the host that best caters to your needs.

If you are about to purchase your first domain, you will probably want something with a low price. Pricing options range from as low as $3.00 to around $100.00 and higher per month. Many sites will actually offer you a lower price or your first year free if you try to navigate away from their page before purchasing a domain, so visit more than just one host while conducting your research.

No matter whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned web designer, you are going to want a reliable web host. Most sites have at least a 99% uptime guarantee. Some even offer load balancing, which minimizes your downtime by keeping a copy of your website on an alternate server just incase you have a server outage. Stick with a host that offers daily server backups so you know you won’t have to worry about losing data.

Customer service and tech support may not be on the top of your list if you already know what you’re doing, but it is very important for a beginner to have someone to talk to about their site problems when they arise. Luckily, whether it be toll-free phone support, free chat or email support, most web hosts offer live tech support and customer service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Every web host offers different features and the options come in all shapes and sizes. Features range from unlimited email to unlimited disk and backup space. Many hosts offer cPanel, Google and Yahoo! ad credits and eCommerce shopping carts. With all of the web hosts out there, it’s not impossible to find the perfect host with all of the options you desire.

Bandwidth and storage space are important for websites dealing with high traffic volumes. Most hosts offer unlimited bandwidth and storage space, but if you don’t need it and can find a host that offers all of the other features you desire for a lower cost, purchase your domain from them instead. Otherwise, consider the unlimited bandwidth and storage space a perk for choosing the host.

For most people getting started with a domain, ease-of-use is at the top of the list when searching for a web host. Most hosts that offer cPanel are the easiest to use. With cPanel, you can easily set up e-mail accounts, view your website statistics and manage your domain from the navigation platform.

With all of the web hosting options available today, it?s easy to understand the importance of researching before purchasing a domain name. You only want to pay for the options and features that you need and will use, so find a host that will give you what you need for a price you are willing to pay.
