Web Hosting Uptime

Web hosting is a service that allows a website to run on a server by itself or with other websites at any given time. These websites can be seen from any computer with a connection to the World Wide Web at any time of the day or night. When deciding on a web hosting service provider, there are a few keep factors to keep in mind.

While some people are looking for a web host to offer them unlimited disk space so that they can upload limitless content to their web page every day, while others are looking for a web host to offer them unlimited bandwidth to keep the traffic flow of the site up and coming each and every month.

If you are running an online business or an e-commerce site, security is probably the most important feature to you. You will always want your customers to feel safe dealing with your business and sending their personal information out into the World Wide Web.

If you’re a newbie to the web world, technical support and customer service are going to be very important to you. You’ll want to run your site through a company that offers live support 24/7. Questions arise at all hours of the day, so it’s nice to have someone there to help you should a question come up at an odd time during a day.

No matter who you are or what type of website you plan on running, one of the most important features a web hosting service provider can guarantee is uptime. To put it in the simplest way that I can, uptime is the amount of time a web server is up and running. Any good web host should offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee. In reality, it should be higher than 99%, more like 99.5%, but 99% is still a good number. The higher the percentage rate for uptime is for any particular company, the less likely it will be that your website experiences any downtime. Downtime is the exact opposite of uptime. Downtime is the amount of time the server is down, and cannot be accessed by anyone.

If your server experiences downtime, whether it is planned or unplanned, they are not obligated to inform you. It is important then to have that high percentage guarantee, because each time your server experiences downtime, so does your website. That means that no one can visit your site and you can’t make any changes to it.

In choosing the best web host for your needs, keep all of these things in mind. Most importantly, think about what would happen to your customers or website visitors if your website should experience any downtime. Never work with a company that doesn’t offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee.
