Web Hosting and E-Commerce

author Posted by: James Norris | filed Filed under: Hosting Tips & Advice

Web hosting is a service provided by web hosting companies. These companies run websites everyday on millions of servers all around the world. E-commerce is the buying and selling of products and services through a web page set up by an online business. It often involves the physical transport of some type of item from a business to another business, from a business to the consumer or even from a business to the government. Whichever way you choose to look at it, e-commerce is best defined as an online business.

If you have a small business and are thinking of a way for expansion, start thinking e-commerce. With e-commerce, your customers will be able to quickly browse through your products and services, place what they plan to purchase in an electronic shopping cart and finally, purchase these items through the Internet. When dealing with such, it is important for these customers to feel safe and secure as they will most likely be paying you by using a credit or debit card, or an electronic check.

Although there are many different types of web hosting to choose from, a dedicated web hosting service provider is the best to go with when running an e-commerce site. Dedicated web hosts offer SSL and FTP. SSL is Secure Sockets Layer. Secure Sockets Layer basically just guarantees that the private information sent from the consumer to the business and vice versa, is sent confidentially. FTP, or File Transfer Protocol is the ability to transfer files and information through a network of computers using the Internet. When a customer knows that their information is safe with your business, especially on the Internet, they are more likely to continue doing their business with you.

Most dedicated web hosts offer the option to create your own, unique online catalog and an electronic shopping cart feature to make business run smoothly for you and your customers. Dedicated web hosting is a little more costly than some of the other types of web hosting, but it is easy to use and if you don’t know much about web hosting, there is often live customer and technical support 24/7/365. Aside from the cost of dedicated hosting, once you have your business organized and everything is up and running smoothly, you will be making much more money than you were before you started your business or when it was just a small shop, so you will still be making a profit.

It is in the best interest of the business owner to run advertisements to get more and more customers coming and going to your website. E-commerce businesses are the latest in technology. They are becoming more and more popular every day. Whether you realize it or not, you have probably used e-commerce multiple times throughout your life. If you have ever purchased a product from an online store or an online auction or if you have ever paid a bill using the Internet, you have taken advantage of the benefits that e-commerce has to offer. Without all the paperwork, e-commerce is also helping to save the environment.

E-Commerce - The Right Solution for Web Hosting

author Posted by: James Norris | filed Filed under: Hosting Tips & Advice

E-commerce (Electronic Commerce) is the buying and selling of products and services through the Internet. It is becoming increasingly popular each and every day. A great example of this is electronic funds transfer. E-commerce involves the physical transportation of some sort of item, in most cases. In some cases, it is used to pay a bill. Many companies have gone to electronic billing and bill pay to become more environmentally friendly.

There are two different types of E-commerce. The first type is business to business, or B2B. Business to business e-commerce is a type of transaction that includes a manufacturer and a wholesaler or a wholesaler and a retailer. In the case of manufacturer to wholesaler, the manufacturer designs a product and the wholesaler purchases the product through the online business. The same goes for wholesaler to retailer, in which case the retailer purchases the product from the wholesaler through the Internet. In both cases, the buyer and the seller are types of businesses. The second type of e-commerce is business to consumer, or B2C. Business to consumer e-commerce is just that of a business selling their product to consumers through the Internet. There is actually a third type. This type is business to government, or B2G, but it’s much less common than the two main types of e-commerce.

If you are a business owner and have been thinking of different ways to expand your services, e-commerce is definitely the right choice for you to make. With e-commerce, you have the ability to spread your products and services to people all over the world, rather than just in your backyard. E-commerce web hosting services offer many features that will help protect you and your customers from theft of any sort. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) guarantees that private information sent from one computer to another is done so confidentially. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows the transfer of files and information between a network of computers. Most e-commerce web hosts also offer shopping carts and the ability to create an online catalog . Just check the features of your package before you purchase it.

All that needs to be done to get an e-commerce business started is finding the best web hosting service provider for your business. Web hosting providers offer customer service and tech support, so you don’t have to be a genius to get things going. They will answer any questions you have and help get your site set up. When creating your domain name, think of something short and sweet. Short domain names are easier for your customers to remember, so it’s more likely to keep them coming back. You will also need to register your domain with the web hosting company. Make sure that they will in fact register it in your name. Some companies will tell you that you own the domain that you pay for, but during registration, enter only their company’s information. Once you have everything up and running, create some ads for your company for others to post on their websites to bring more customers to your website.

Dedicated Servers for Ecommerce

author Posted by: James Norris | filed Filed under: Hosting Tips & Advice

A dedicated server is one that gives your website safety, security and its own unique IP address.

If you run a business in which you will be buying and selling products over the Internet, a dedicated server is the best option for you. This type of business is called Ecommerce or e-commerce, and a dedicated server is practically a necessity when dealing with such. A dedicated server will keep your clients personal information safe. The safer your clients feel, the likelier they are to continue doing business with you.

An e-commerce business demands an extremely high level of security and the ability to make and receive payments through the server. Dedicated servers offer SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), which guarantees the confidentiality of the purchaser’s personal information. SSL encrypts the information the purchaser enters before it is transferred over the Internet. The information therefore cannot be hacked, which in turn grants a safe transaction and a happy buyer.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is also very important for an e-commerce business. FTP simply allows the transfer of information from one computer to another. Without FTP, e-commerce would, without a doubt, not be an option.

Dedicated servers vary in cost and tend to be on the more expensive end since the website uses an entire server instead of sharing a server with multiple websites. The cost may seem like a downfall, but there are so many features pertaining to dedicated servers that dynamic servers don’t have to offer.

Your website will have outstanding security. The security feature not only allows for safe business transactions, but also helps to prevent spam from getting anywhere close to your server.

Since you will be running your site on a server dedicated only to you, the disk space will increase immensely. With no other webmasters sharing your server, you will have an unbelievable amount of space to load whatever files you feel are necessary to run your e-commerce business.

A dedicated server will also offer better bandwidth and data transfer than other types of servers. You will never have to worry whether your traffic flow exceeds your allotted bandwidth, so your customers will be able to move swiftly through their transaction without the slow uploading times that you would typically see on a website that does not run on a dedicated server.

When you run on your own server, you have all of the control. Dedicated servers have control panels to help you easily manage your website. From the control panel you can add or delete e-mail addresses and even change your administrative passwords. On any other server, the web host holds most of that control so you have to call technical support any time you wish to change something.

On the other hand, running your e-commerce business on a dedicated server also means that you have to know what you’re doing. If you own a large business and don’t have to worry about money, you can hire someone to run the website for you. If you’ve just recently started a business or you are thinking of starting up a business however, it would probably be in your best interest to learn a little about web development before committing to a dedicated server.
