Why is Web Hosting Cheap?

author Posted by: James Norris | filed Filed under: Hosting Tips & Advice

If you can remember back in the 1990’s when the Internet first came into our lives and the lives of our love ones, think about how complicated we used to think it was. The Internet was new to everyone, and it seemed that only wealthy folks could afford it, let alone a computer. Do you remember how much you had to learn in order to get that first computer with the Internet up and running?

Back then, it seemed that only large businesses owned web space. After all, large businesses are where all the money is made, right? As time went on and research was conducted, the Internet became less complex and therefore became much more affordable. More and more people gained access to the Internet while more and more companies started creating their own web space. As the technology advanced, so did the numbers of web domain holders and people at home started to create their own personal web space as a sign of ownership.

There are so many web hosting companies to choose from today, no matter what you need your space for. With the advent of so many new web hosting service providers each year, companies have had to start getting more competitive with packages and pricing. Back when the internet first came about, these domains cost us so much. Now that there is so much competition, these same domains are being offered at a much lower, much more reasonable price.

Another theory is that young minds are eager to learn. The younger you were when you first got the internet, the more you wanted to learn about it, right? Well now that the generation is getting older, the minds of the youth have already gained so much information about the World Wide Web and we all want to get our hands on a piece of it. Since that generation is grown up now and graduating from college, they are starting their own businesses and therefore purchasing more web domains. The demand for different web hosting packages creates the need for more web hosting service providers and therefore decreases the cost of owning a domain.

We keep learning about new developments in the technological world everyday. Without the advent of the Internet, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Thanks to all of the research and studies that have been conducted, the Internet and the opportunity to own web space have been offered at much cheaper, more cost efficient prices.

Different Types of Web Hosting

author Posted by: James Norris | filed Filed under: Hosting Tips & Advice

There are several different types of web hosts available today. Some of the most common types include free web hosting, shared web hosting and dedicated web hosting.

Free web hosting is by far the easiest to come by. It doesn’t cost a cent and allows you to express yourself using the Internet. If you are just starting out, work with a free host for a while to get your hands wet in the web development world. Free web hosts are fantastic for beginners, but they offer few features and a lot of limitations for those who are more advanced.

For starters, free web hosts offer minimal disk space and bandwidth. This limits the number of files you are able to upload and decreases the allowed traffic flow per month. Most free web hosts do not allow you to use your own web developing programs and do not support flash applications. Free web hosts are also not secure so if you use one, the likelihood of your website being spammed is greatly increased.

Shared web hosting is also very popular, and still on the cheap side. If you are looking to run a quality website while spending a small amount of money each month, shared web hosting is the way to go. Shared web hosting is so inexpensive because the server your website runs on is shared with a multitude of other webmasters. Each of the webmasters pays a portion of the cost to use the server.

With a shared web host, you don’t have to worry about upgrading software or managing your website. The support team that runs the server does all of the tough work for you. Most web hosts offer 24-hour customer service and technical support. Most shared web-hosting companies also offer security, e-mail and shopping carts for their customers using the server for e-commerce. All you really need with a shared web host is the creativity and ability to express yourself or your business.

The disadvantages of running your site on a shared server are limited to low disk space, low search engine optimization and low bandwidth. Basically, shared hosts offer limited features. If you are expecting a lot of traffic or are planning on using your site for e-commerce, a dedicated web host will probably work best for you.

Dedicated web hosting is the third most common type of web hosting. A dedicated host costs the most, but it doesn’t have to empty your wallet each month. With a dedicated web host, you are guaranteed security and stability. You most likely will never have to worry about server downtime, as your server belongs to you and only you. Dedicated servers offer SSL (secure sockets layer) and FTP (file transfer protocol), which allow for the secure transfer of personal information and files through the Internet from one computer to another. The only downfalls that come along with a dedicated web host are the high cost and the required knowledge it takes to keep up with site management and software.

Make sure you research multiple web hosting companies before choosing whom to commit to. No matter which way you choose to go, you should always be happy with the decision you make and the company you choose to work with

Cheap Hosting

Cheap Hosting:

So you saw those cheap dollars signs parked out front of those web hosting offers and though you had to pounce! Unfortunately, your first reaction of “if the deal is too good, then it must not be true” just might be right. Some times the bare bones web hosting options might not be right for your needs. But then again, there are some real bargains out there. If you are just starting out, a lot of the minimum package is all you will need, as it takes a while to build a steady steam of traffic to your site.

Before you sign on the bottom line, here ar esome thing to look out for:

Unlimited Disk Space:

Almost all web hosting providers offer cheap hosting packages. However they usually cover themselves in excessive use policies to acceptable use. You need to know what the definition these web hosting providers are defining excessive use as and what happens if you should exceed it. There could be hidden fees that occur automatic charges the really rack up your bill if you’re not careful. This could cause major disruptions of you business and website, so read carefully.

Banner Hosting:

Have you ever seen those signs that say free hosing? Well you’ve heard the expression that there’s no such thing a free lunch. This expression is true because the web hosting provider makes their money by putting a big advertisement banner right on top of you page, usually letting everyone know that you are getting a free website by them, and that your visitors can sign up for a free website to.

If you are trying to build a serious site that doesn’t scream I’m cheap, and I don’t realize that my website looks like an early version of the 90’s during the birth of the internet age, then it might be more appropriate to choose a web hosting provider that is not 100% free.

However in the Banner web hosting environment, if you have you can usually have the banners removed for a fee.

Setup Fees:

Some things to watch out for are hidden setup fees. You need to ask these cheap web hosting providers if there are any setup fees, and what payment methods they accept. Almost all cheap hosting providers accept credit cards/debit cards, so you might want to watch out for companies that only accept Paypal as payment via direct debit of your bank account.
Paypal process credit cards, so companies that demand you pay them through paypal via via direct debit of your bank account, you might want to reconsider. It makes it easier to recover any damages this way, incase any disputes may arrive.

Download Limits:

Some cheap web hosting companies limit file size downloads and data transfer speeds. You know those slow load times on a web page that make you want to scream, you want to avoid that. Because there is nothing worse than someone sending you a link to a cool audio or video clip and watching it freeze. So be sure to check out the CPU limitations to make sure they don’t interfere with you needs.

In addition, some the the cheaper hosting plans might not guarantee their uptime, or critical technical support when you most need it. Think of it this way, how often does your website go down? If you’ve been on the web long enough you will experience your site going down on more than one occasion. If you’re a etailer, and your in the midst of the Holiday shopping rush, if you site goes down, you could loose substatical profit, with little resources of contacting some of the providers other than by email. Often these emails might not get looked at until 3 days later if you contact them after hours on a Friday evening. So keep a lookout for 24/7 support in the offers.

But don’t be discouraged. Do your research, as cheap hosting has it’s places. Whether you’re an affiliate pioneer, or looking for a place to throw up your family photo albums online, there is a need for good cheap web hosting providers. Just know what your needs are before you sign on the bottom line.
